Lawyers and students step up for London Legal Walk 2019

Thousands of lawyers are set to take part in this year’s London Legal Walk to fundraise for community legal advice services.

Every year the London Legal Walk brings the profession together to help keep vital lifelines of free legal advice services such as law centres and Citizens Advice operating. These services are often the only source of legal aid available to all but well-off members of the community as a result of cuts to legal aid funding by the government.

The walk itself will take place on Monday 17 June, starting outside the Royal Courts of Justice, with groups of walkers setting off between 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Last year, over 13,000 members of the profession, from senior judges to students, took part, raising £830,000. Teams can sign up here.

Christina Blacklaws, president of the Law Society, said: “The London Legal Walk is a highlight of the legal calendar when thousands of solicitors and barristers take to the streets to raise money for organisations which provide free legal advice. Access to justice is the cornerstone of English and Welsh law and this fundraising effort helps to ensure free legal advice is available to those who need it the most. 2019 also marks the centenary of women being able to practise law.
