Law graduates’ average salaries are lower than their non-law peers, research finds

updated on 13 September 2013

Recent law graduates earn less on average than their non-law graduate peers, new research from the Higher Education Statistics Agency has shown.

As reported by the Law Society Gazette, those who graduated with law degrees in 2009 went on to earn average salaries of £26,000 in 2012, while 2009's non-law graduates earned £27,500 on average in 2012. Meanwhile, social studies graduates earned, on average, £3,000 more than their law graduate peers in 2012.

More encouragingly, the study also shows that 79% of law graduates are in full-time employment, compared to the average of 72% of graduates in other subjects. However, the percentage of law graduates in full-time employment actually working in the legal sector is not known.
