Short and sweet this week; a handful of interesting business-driven news stories that you should know at least a small bit about. Read on for more:
- Once synonymous with everything that is wrong with budget air travel, Ryanair famously vowed to stop "unnecessarily pissing people off" and upped its customer service game accordingly, resulting in a 66% increase in net profit in 2014.
- In what could also be seen as part of a canny charm offensive, Amazon is planning to change the way it report its sales figures, which could see it paying more tax and going some way to combat the criticism that it uses unfair tax avoidance techniques.
- Founder of Keydata, Stewart Ford, has been given a record £75 million fine (20 times higher than the previous highest fine of an individual) by the FCA for selling so-called "death bonds". Ford denies the charges and alleges a "regulatory hatchet job" by the FCA and administrators PwC.
