Law Society Awards celebrate excellent solicitors

The annual Law Society Excellence Awards saw a record attendance of over 1,000 guests as they celebrated key lawyers within the profession in London on Thursday night.

Ravi Naik of Irvine Thanvi Natas Solicitors, who was the lead solicitor in the Cambridge Analytica test case, won Human Rights Lawyer of the Year, while Dame Janet Gaymer DBE QC (Hon), who was the first woman to be named senior partner at a top-20 law firm, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Woman Lawyer of the Year was awarded to Janet Legrand QC (Hon), the first female senior partner and global co-chair at international law firm DLA Piper UK LLP.

The Secret Barrister was awarded Legal Personality of the Year for their work on highlighting the problems facing the justice system in England and Wales. Stories of the Law and How It’s Broken has been a bestseller since its release in March this year.

Peter Liver, the Law Society’s executive director of membership services, said: “This year’s awards were bigger than ever. I was delighted to see so many people celebrating the best of the solicitors’ profession with their representative body. Many congratulations to all the winners and nominees.”
