The Legal Services Board (LSB) has approved proposals to change the qualifying employment requirements to become a chartered legal executive to a new way of work-based learning.
The application, submitted by ILEX Professional Standards (IPS), set out new learning objectives to be achieved in the workplace in order to gain 'fellowship' status as a chartered legal executive. IPS will publish detailed guidance on the new work-based learning methods in the coming weeks, while the new scheme is set to come into effect from 24 June 2013.
Following the application's approval, an LSB statement said: "The LSB welcomes the outcomes-focused approach adopted by IPS to introduce a work-based learning scheme based on a set of learning outcomes which reflect the key competencies required to become a newly qualified fellow. … An application process which is based on transparent and agreed criteria in the form of eight agreed work-based learning outcomes will ensure the application process for fellowship is more robust and objective, and therefore fairer to the applicant."
