Knights sets sights on becoming “regional magic circle firm”; Freshfields focuses on cutting emissions

updated on 01 February 2021

Regional firm Knight’s revenues soared to £46.2 million in the second half of 2020, up by around £14 million from the first half of the year, following the remote acquisitions of Shulmans, ASB and Fraser Brown, plus December’s acquisition of OTB Eveling. The firm’s revenue jump was partly as a result of these successful acquisitions.

Although the large firm does not have a London office and has no plans to develop a presence in the capital, it does have offices across the country, including in Exeter, York Birmingham and Leeds. Speaking to City A.M, the firm’s chief executive David Beech said: “We want to be the magic circle firm of the region”.

Meanwhile, as part of its five-year environment strategy, multinational firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has revealed its plans to significantly reduce its use of planes for global business travel. By concentrating its efforts on flying less, the firm’s formal targets include cutting carbon emissions by 30%. By the end of the year, the firm also wants to have cut out all single-use plastics on a global scale and by 2030 it hopes to be purchasing 100% of its electricity from renewable energy.
