Gowling WLG (UK) LLP has launched a new specialist training contract within its award-winning real estate group, aimed at attracting and developing trainees with a strong interest in real estate law.
The new pathway will run alongside Gowling WLG’s existing training contract, with trainees taking part in the same induction and wider development programme as those on the traditional programme. The real estate cohort, however, will focus entirely on real estate work throughout their training, completing four six-months seats exclusively in this area, gaining experience from partners and building in-depth sector knowledge rather than rotating across different practice areas.
The first cohort starting the two-year programme will be based in Birmingham and London. They’ll start their training contracts in September 2027 and qualify in 2029.
Rob Bridgman, partner in the real estate group and the firm’s training principal, said: “We’re really excited about this new training contract. It’s all about investing in people who have a genuine passion for real estate and giving them the best possible start. Rather than dipping in and out of different practice areas, our trainees will be immersed in real estate work from day one – learning from experienced partners and building real depth of knowledge. We think that’s a brilliant foundation for a long and successful career.”
Felicity Lindsay, head of Gowling WLG’s real estate group, said: “The launch of this specialist training contract reflects the importance of real estate to our firm’s strategy and future growth. Real estate sits at the heart of Gowling WLG, and we are proud to have built one of the leading real estate teams in the UK. By investing in a dedicated training route, we are strengthening our ability to develop exceptional talent with deep sector expertise. We’re excited about the next generation of lawyers joining us and the role they will play in shaping the future of our team.”
