Government grants CILEx lawyers the right to become coroners

updated on 11 July 2013

Following discussions between CILEx and the Ministry of Justice, it has been announced that chartered legal executives can now become coroners.

The news shows CILEx's continued progress in recent years - chartered legal executives were granted eligibility to apply for judicial appointments in 2008, a right which extended to district judge posts in 2010.

CILEx president Nick Hanning said: "This is another welcome step forward in recognising the professional standing of chartered legal executives, and lends further weight to our cause of ensuring CILEx lawyers are able to pursue any legal career they put their minds to. Appointments such as these should be based on merit, and this is a logical step towards ensuring these posts are held by the best possible candidates."
