Experience of work experience: JLD wants to know more

updated on 22 January 2013

The Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) is seeking opinion and comment from students on their experiences related to work experience - how much of it people have done, was it useful, and was it a positive or negative experience. Participants in the survey are entered into a draw to win a Kindle.

The JLD makes a point of noting that it also wants to hear from the many "who wish to pursue a career in law, but are unable to carry out work experience because they are working and studying part time and/or cannot afford to undertake unpaid work experience".

The survey is confidential and will take between five and 20 minutes (depending on how long your responses are). Click here to complete the survey or email [email protected] if you have any other comments related to this topic.

In other JLD news, the new chair, Heather Iqbal-Rayner, has accused the SRA of not protecting trainees from exploitation and threats. Reported in the Law Gazette, Iqbal-Rayner said: "Trainees work closely with fee-earners and are often the only person, apart from the fee-earner, to see evidence of misdemeanours in the paperwork. We are in a unique position to blow the whistle, but as things stand it could be the end of our careers." In her letter to SRA Chief Executive Antony Townsend, Iqbal-Rayner goes on to argue that the SRA ought to step in when firms fail to live up to the standards expected of the profession.
