As a part of its efforts to support a sustainable, low carbon economy and reduce emissions by 90%, law firm DWF Group Limited has launched the ‘DWF forest’, in collaboration with carbon market specialists Climate Impact.
Climate action is one of DWF’s core priorities, with the firm having previously committed to significantly cutting its absolute carbon emissions and encouraging clients to improve their sustainability practices too. Moves that align its progress with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The firm plans for the forest to tackle the firm’s residual emissions by absorbing carbon as the forest matures. The firm believes that this project will restore nature, and have a positive environmental and societal impact for generations in a measurable way. The forest will be located in the Scottish borders and work under the UK Woodland Carbon Code – the UK’s quality assurance standard for woodland carbon projects.
Chief sustainability officer at DWF, Kirsty Rogers, called the firm’s “ESG [environmental, social and governance] and Sustainability Strategy” a “critical component” of its vision to create sustainable growth for the group.
Rogers added: “The DWF Forest is a testament to our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting biodiversity. We recognise that achieving net zero is about more than compliance – it’s about leading by example and creating lasting impact. The DWF Forest not only helps us reach our climate goals but also supports education, community engagement and biodiversity conservation.”
Landowner of the DWF forest, Alec Telfer, said: “It’s about nurturing a modern and diverse farm for the future while staying rooted in the local community I care deeply about”.
