BT lawyers moving to DWF under new partnership plans

A new strategic partnership unveiled between BT and DWF could see in-house lawyers at the telecoms giant move across to work for DWF, a first for the international firm that recently floated on the stock market.

As the new “strategic legal partner” of BT, DWF will offer insurance and real estate services to the telecoms company. Members of BT’s in-house claims and corporate property team will in turn transfer to DWF’s managed services practice.

A spokesperson for BT told The Law Gazette that over 40 BT employees are “in scope” to transfer to DWF and would become DWF employees.

Sabine Chalmers, group general counsel at BT, said: “We are transforming and simplifying the way we work across BT – building strategic partnerships will play a big part in this. Our partnership structure with DWF will ensure we continue to receive outstanding insurance and real estate legal services, while those transferring to DWF are joining a fast-growing and innovative legal business.”

Andrew Leaitherland, group chief executive at DWF, commented that the news “is great recognition for DWF’s differentiated offering and our strategy of transforming legal services. It provides clear evidence that our compelling global offering of complex, managed and connected services is resonating with clients”.
