BARBRI has acquired legal AI learning platform Lega in a move aimed at accelerating practical AI fluency across the legal profession, the global legal education provider announced on Monday 22 June. The deal will expand BARBRI’s AI and skills portfolio by integrating Lega’s ‘build-as-you-learn’ model.
The acquisition comes as the legal sector undergoes significant change, with increasing demand for professionals who can confidently and effectively apply AI in practice. BARBRI said the move represents a shift from simply discussing AI to actively embedding it into legal education and professional development through hands-on learning and data-driven training.
Lucie Allen, co-CEO of BARBRI, said: “BARBRI has been building the AI knowledge and competency foundation for the legal profession through SkillBurst and BARBRI AI courses, alongside broader professional education offerings such as BARBRI CLE/CPE and Prep for Practice.” Allen added: “Lega brings a highly practical model that helps learners move from AI awareness to AI fluency. Together, we are committed to equipping law schools, law firms, and legal professionals for an AI-driven profession.”
Following the acquisition, BARBRI and Lega plan to expand experiential AI workshops, simulations, hackathons and lab-style learning initiatives designed to bring law students and practitioners together to tackle real legal challenges. The organisations said this approach aims to bridge the gap between legal education and practice by developing shared AI competency.
Lega’s capabilities are due to be integrated across BARBRI’s product suite to create a unified learning experience. With BARBRI’s global reach, the combined offering is expected to scale experiential AI training for legal learners and organisations worldwide.
Founded in 2023, Lega provides a generative AI lab for experimentation and application development, alongside hands-on workshops delivered to Am Law 100 firms, legal technology conferences and innovation summits.
Christian Lang, founder and CEO of Lega, said: “We built Lega around a simple belief: legal professionals need safe, practical, hands-on ways to explore what AI makes possible.” Lang added: “Through our work with firms, schools, and legal teams, we've learned that success isn't about finding the right AI tool. It's about building the fluency, judgment, and confidence to use AI effectively. Joining BARBRI means we can bring experiential AI learning to every law school, every firm, and every professional ready to lead what comes next.”
As part of the deal, Lang will join BARBRI as head of innovation, where he’ll oversee AI skills development and readiness strategy. Financial terms of the transaction weren’t disclosed.
