Apprenticeship opportunities grow as Mischon de Reya and Morrisons get on board

updated on 27 August 2014

The take up of apprenticeships among law firms continued this month with the announcements that Mischon de Reya is to take on two new apprentices at its London office, and regional firm Morrisons is looking for a new apprentice to join its office in Camberley.

Mischon de Reya, the highest ranked law firm in The Times ‘ top 100 companies to work for in 2014, is recruiting a legal apprentice in both its real estate and private client departments. The apprentices will complete the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services and will swap teams over the course of their training. If successful, this pilot scheme will be rolled out to all of the firm’s departments.

The apprentice to join Morrisons’ Camberley office will start in September and join either the firm’s private client or family department, and complete the same Level 3 qualification delivered  by CILEx Law School.

Meanwhile, the education charity, the Northern Council for Further Education, has released a study showing that almost half of UK adults have been put off gaining further qualifications by the punitive cost of higher education. The study highlighted the growing demand for vocational courses such as legal apprenticeships.

Jenny Pelling, business director at CILEx Law School, said: “Legal apprenticeships at Mishcon are an outstanding opportunity, and we’re looking forward to supporting the firm and the apprentices throughout the programme.”

Pelling also commented on the new apprenticeship opportunity at Morrisons: “Morrisons is a dynamic regional practice with impressive growth plans. The CILEx legal apprenticeship route is attractive as an ideal way of developing a school leaver into the Morrisons Solicitors way of working, while offering an opportunity for the apprentice to learn to operate within the legal environment.”
