Lawyers march with pride

updated on 28 June 2011

The Law Society invites people to join the legal profession march at this year's Pride London parade on Saturday 2 July. Representatives from the Law Society, Bar Council, Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX), Junior Lawyers Division (JLD), Bar Lesbian and Gay Group (BLAGG), Lesbian and Gay Lawyers Association (LAGLA), and Interlaw Diversity Forum, will march together under the banner 'Equality under the Law'. Those wishing to join the group should meet on the day at the Queen's Head & Artichoke pub (London NW1 4EA) between 11.30am and 11.45am.

Law Society president Linda Lee said it was the responsibility of the legal profession to help people enforce their rights, and to shape the law so those rights become a reality: "Lawyers marching together at Pride 2011 is more important than ever before as access to justice is under threat due to government cuts.  Lawyers have the skills and position to help protect the vulnerable in society and ensure the rule of law is upheld. It is important that our voices are heard."

The parade is the culmination of a two-week 'festival fortnight' which calls on theatre, music, debate, art and entertainment to promote equality, unity and a sense of community within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender population.
