A survey conducted by G2 Legal has found that 28% of lawyers are ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to change their jobs in 2023.

Data collected is based on respondents who selected their sector as:

The reasoning behind these results may be attributed to 34% of respondents failing to receive an annual salary increase in 2022, or the fact that eight out of 10 respondents didn’t receive a cost-of-living increase to help with rising living costs.

Annette Thorpe, managing director of G2 Legal, said: “I’m proud that we’ve conducted our first annual salary survey with our candidates. The research has told us that even during a period of economic uncertainty, a proportion of lawyers are still looking for new roles or career progression.”

The survey was sent to over 32,000 lawyers held on G2 Legal’s database, and was open between 6 December 2022 and 6 January 2023.

G2 Legal’s findings correspond with those of Thomson Reuters, which LawCareers.Net reported on earlier this year when 25% of associates “said they were “somewhat likely” or “highly likely” to move from their current firm within the next two years”.
