Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the Master of the Rolls, has succeeded Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers as the president of the United Kingdom's Supreme Court.
Neuberger will assume office on 1 October as the Supreme Court's second ever president, following its establishment in 2009 as the most senior court in the country. As reported in Legal Week, the outgoing president Lord Phillips chose Neuberger as his successor and has since endorsed the new man. Neuberger's successor as Master of the Rolls is not yet known.
Upon his appointment, Lord Neuberger said: "Together with the other members of the court, I will do my best to ensure that it continues to play its proper role in upholding the rule of law and applying and developing the law in a coherent, principled and practical way, appropriate for today's world."
