Eversheds recues children's charity

updated on 17 March 2011

Pro bono legal assistance provided by Eversheds has saved children's charity, the Lane End Farm Trust, from closure. The charity, which runs a farm in the Peak District visited by disengaged young people, was promised a grant to convert a barn in order for a young person with spinal injuries to stay. However, after having spent the money, the charity's grant was withdrawn, leaving it unable to repay the sum. Free legal assistance provided by Eversheds (which the charity was connected to via pro bono charity LawWorks) saved the farm from certain closure as the body which promised the money eventually agreed not to withdraw the grant.

Charity representative Vivienne Howson said: "We cannot begin to describe the difference that Eversheds has made to our charity. We honestly do not believe we would have survived. Instead, the trust is thriving and many young people will continue to benefit from the work that we do."

The firm continues to assist the charity on the matter and a spokesperson commented: "Eversheds has been delighted to help Lane End Farm Trust to resolve these significant legal issues so that it can fully focus on its valuable core work of helping young people."
