Olswang cancels London graduate recruitment and defers 2011 trainees

updated on 15 February 2011

Due to "changes in client demand", City firm Olswang has announced that it is cancelling its London graduate recruitment programme for 2013 and will be deferring its September 2011 intake. The trainees due to start in September 2011 will now begin in 2012; while those due to commence in 2012 will have their start dates put back until 2013. Deferred trainees will be given the option to study an MA in law at BPP Law School. The next training contract vacancies will be for September 2014 and March 2015.

In a statement reported in The Lawyer, the firm said: "Along with our competitors, we have seen a change in client demands and this has resulted in a change in our resourcing requirements, particularly at trainee level. We want to ensure that our trainees get consistently excellent experience and on-the-job training during their training contracts, in addition to the required formal training, and we feel that a smaller trainee body will allow us to ensure this consistently as the legal market continues to change."

Trainee recruitment at the firm's Thames Valley Office will continue as normal - it will not be making deferrals and is accepting applications for training contracts to commence in 2013 and 2014.
