CoL launches new scholarships

updated on 11 November 2011

The College of Law has launched several new scholarships to assist potential lawyers with their student fees. The scholarships cover the CoL's new LLB, as well as its GDL and LPC courses.

The CoL's two-year law degree has 10 available scholarships of £3,000 towards the first year's fees of £9,000. 2012's GDL and LPC courses each have one full scholarship available, which covers all course fees and allows the successful applicants to study at a CoL branch of their choice. Two runners-up on each programme will receive scholarships of £2,000 towards their fees.

Professor Nigel Savage, chief executive of the CoL, said: "The College is a firm supporter of diversity in legal education and we take our responsibility to widen access to the legal profession very seriously. We already make substantial investment in our £3 million Pathways to Law scheme, which supports A-level students from disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as in the Law Society's Diversity Access Scheme aimed at helping entrants facing substantial barriers to qualification. We are very pleased to extend our investment by launching this new scholarship scheme to support ambitious, talented students in achieving their goal of a successful career in the modern world of law."

Applicants for the LLB scholarships must have accepted their place by 31 July 2012. The submission deadline is 20 August 2012 and the theme of the competition is 'Why the world needs lawyers'. Click here for more details about the LLB scholarship.

Students applying for the GDL and LPC scholarships must have accepted their place by 31 January 2012. The theme is 'My vision of the modern lawyer in the 21st century', and those entering must submit an essay accompanied by a short video/digital presentation by 14 February 2012.
