To coincide with Black History Month, the Law Society is holding a series of events at Chancery Lane in celebration of the achievements of black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) lawyers. Events will kick off with an 'Inspiration Evening' on 14 October where top black and Asian judges will discuss topics that include their motivation to join the judiciary and their experiences on the bench. The evening will be presented and chaired by Channel 4 journalist Samira Ahmed and will feature Rabinder Singh QC (the first Asian High Court judge).
Other events taking place throughout October will recognise the achievements of talented BAME lawyers and encourage BAME people to consider a career in the legal profession.
Law Society president John Wotton said: "The number of BAME lawyers carving out a career in the judiciary is increasing and a diverse judiciary is central to a fair and balanced justice system. Holding these events not only recognises the great work that goes on throughout the profession but highlights the challenges and obstacles that remain. We have asked inspirational people to come along and share their experiences in what is sure to be a very valuable learning experience and networking opportunity."
