Not enough solicitor responses to LETR survey

updated on 08 August 2012

More solicitors have been encouraged to contribute their views to the legal education and training review (LETR), after a disproportionately low number responded to an online survey.

The questionnaire is anonymous, and provides legal practitioners with the opportunity to express opinions and provide feedback regarding the LETR. Anyone who has a question about the survey or the LETR can contact [email protected], with 'LETR online survey' in the email subject field. The questions take 30-40 minutes to complete, and the closing date for responses is 16 August 2012. Those who complete the survey also get entered into a draw to win an Amazon Kindle.

Professor Julian Webb, whose research team commissioned the survey, said: "As of Friday 3 August, we had received almost 1,000 completed responses from the legal profession but just 12.3% of these were from solicitors. This is disappointingly low, failing to reflect the size or importance of the profession within the legal sector and it could mean that solicitors' specific interests are not properly addressed in the survey. By contrast, 18.6% of responses have come from legal executives and a substantial 39.6% have come from barristers."
