Legal Lego: lecturer's revision series is great building block

updated on 08 May 2012

Students revising for exams in criminal law have a new tool to aid their studies: a YouTube series recreating some of the main cases and topics with Lego characters.

Devised by Carol Withey, a law lecturer at the University of Greenwich, the series currently comprises seven videos portraying criminal scenarios from theft and robbery to involuntary manslaughter, all using descriptive captions and an eclectic cast of Lego characters. Some videos recreate specific cases as a fun way of helping viewers to remember necessary details at exam time, while others invite students to identify every criminal act and law broken within a scenario before revealing the answers at the end.

Withey, law lecturer, auteur and nominee for this year's LC.N Training & Recruitment Awards, said: "I teach criminal law and I have devised Lego films to help students learn the main cases of some of the main topics. In total, 50 cases are covered and they are all free to view. Students in my university and elsewhere are finding them very helpful in this current exam period."
