Developing into ultimate lawyers careers conference

A stellar line up of law firm leaders and top GCs, also including Professor Richard Susskind, are addressing a major career conference aimed exclusively at trainee solicitors and aspiring lawyers.

Delivered by the leading provider of career development advice for young lawyers, Ultimate Law Guide, the conference is being held on Friday 11 July, at Birbeck, University of London.

The focus of the conference is what future the radically changing profession holds for lawyers entering the profession now and what skills they will need to make it in, up and to the top.

Professor Richard Susskind will kick-off the conference with a keynote address.

Other speakers include:

  • Solomon Wifa, London Managing Partner of O’Melveny & Myers.
  • Bruce Macmillan, former GC of The Legal Services Board and senior VP, and senior Commercial Legal Counsel of VISA Europe.
  • Paulette Mastin, counsel at Linklaters LLP,
  • Elaine Hutton, GC of Bare Escentuals,
  • Kristin McFetridge, chief counsel, BT Legal
  • Ann Silla, legal counsel of The Economist

Participants will also hear the views from junior lawyers and trainee solicitors at a range of law firms and in-house, who themselves are doing what they are urging other people to do.

"All of our highly accomplished guest-speakers will share their stories of how they have achieved success in their careers, and this practical career know-how will equip young lawyers with the tried and tested advice on how to excel in their legal career" said Craig Robinson, CEO & Founder of Ultimate Law Guide.

The conference will provide trainee solicitors with a clear understanding of how to demonstrate commercial awareness in all their work, turn good impressions with colleagues and clients into excellent professional relationships, become the first person senior associates and partners turn to when they need important work done, and attract and retain the best mentors and sponsors, who keenly promote your long-term career progression.

Aspiring solicitors will also come away with a resolute focus on the most important ways you can enhance your prospects of securing a training contract, including practical guidance on how to prepare first-class application forms and how to impress at assessment centres and interviews. The key lessons on how to demonstrate the holy grail of commercial awareness during the selection process. An understanding of networking, why you need to network and how to do it effectively. Powerful strategies for building lasting motivation, confidence, and resilience to enable young lawyers to overcome the high hurdles that are in front of anyone navigating the legal career journey.

Craig Robinson commented: "Making your way in to the law and then up through the ranks is extraordinarily tough. And the odds are not in your favour unless you take control of your career from the outset, and at every step of the career path.  Ultimate Law Guide’s career conference is designed to help young lawyers do this to the best of their ability. Attendees will receive a unique set of materials to ensure they actively manage the next stage of their career successfully. And after the conference young lawyers will continue to get our personal investment of career development advice, support, useful personal introductions and further meaningful resources from Ultimate Law Guide until they have reached their ultimate professional goals and achieved premium career outcomes".
