Reading time: two minutes

The daily commute into the office often ensures that I have at least 30 minutes (subject to train delays) to organise my week, plan my upcoming events and educate myself further so that I can excel in the coming weeks.

As I’ve recently begun exploring activities that I’m able to complete on my commute, I thought I’d share some ways in which I’ve used my travel time to ensure that I’m elevating my time.

First of all, let's start with organising your week. I know I always talk about organisation, but I recently made a ground-breaking discovery of a page-a-day diary… I’ll never look back! This means that there’s enough room in this A5 holy grail book to note down must-do/must-see activities for each day, even something as small as buying more post-it notes or making your dinner for the next day.

I recommend you purchase one immediately. This'll then become your new scout's handbook and you’ll no longer forget the small stuff, as I used to do. It also means that that friend you keep forgetting to see, you remember to organise plans with – and then when you forget the plans, they’re written right there to remind you.

Secondly, I'd highlight the importance of ensuring that you’re up to date on what’s going on in your area of law. I’ve always been told throughout my education that the law is constantly evolving and changing to meet societal needs, which you'll need to be aware of as you practise law.

I often listen to podcasts on different platforms as well as sign up for weekly/monthly newsletters and keepan eye on social media platforms which advertise and mention different changes in the law. This ensures not only that I’m up to date in the law, but that I can also join office discussions and networking debates.

Finally, I’d suggest planning/finding upcoming events. If you plan the events you want to go to, not just with work but with friends too, you’ll never miss your social events due to double booking or simply forgetting that they’re happening. This aids you to elevate not only your personal life but your professional life too.
