More info

Oxford Brookes University is home to one of the UK's leading law schools. We offer full and part-time academic courses and professional training. We are one of the few universities in the UK where world-class law academics teaching on research-informed programmes work alongside experienced practitioners offering top-quality training for lawyers. The School of Law is located in Headington Hill Hall, a beautiful Grade II listed mansion dating back to 1771. Situated just a mile from Oxford's beautiful and historic city centre, the hall has extensive gardens for students to enjoy which command stunning views over Oxford.

Ideally situated for exploring Britain and Europe, coaches link Oxford to London and its airports 24 hours a day. Oxford is famous for its historic buildings and academic tradition - but it is the breadth of enterprise, culture and opportunities in Oxford that creates a unique and stimulating place in which to live and learn.

GDL

The GDL is a highly popular course with students who value the exceptional foundation it provides for a career in the legal profession. The course is sufficiently small so as to create an open and supportive atmosphere, thus allowing greater time for in-depth study and personal contact with the tutors. The GDL programme places special emphasis on the practical skills needed to be a successful lawyer, like mooting and client interviewing, and we encourage you to take part in competitions and mock trials where our teams have a formidable reputation.

Scholarships

GDL applicants who have accepted their place with us are eligible for entry to win a £5,000 scholarship towards their fees. The award will be made judged on the outcome of an essay writing competition. For the latest information on scholarships visit www.law.brookes.ac.uk.

Careers support

Careers support is offered both within the School of Law and as part of the wider university support services. We maintain strong and enduring links with major law firms as well as an international community of legal researchers. We have worked closely with law firms to develop courses that meet the needs of today's legal practitioners, resulting in endorsements from a range of local and national partners who recommend our programmes to trainees.

As well as being able to offer informed, practical and personalised advice, we also ensure that the skills you learn as part of your training are those that are the most valued by the legal profession. In addition to practical and academic skills you will be able to gain valuable experience through our award-winning student Pro Bono scheme. You will also be encouraged to build on other skills such as conducting independent research, developing networking opportunities, presenting and public speaking.
