Aston Law is based in Aston Business School, Birmingham, an exciting place to study at the heart of the UK's second city. Aston Business School has a global reputation for teaching quality, research and innovation. Our talented graduates have taken up positions in prestigious firms and companies around the world. We take pride in offering high levels of welfare and support for all our law students as well as providing a stimulating and engaging learning environment.
Law has been taught at postgraduate and undergraduate level within the Business School for many years, giving us the experience necessary to provide a world-class programme that combines legal expertise with commercial intelligence. All of the law courses offered by Aston Law have been developed in consultation with the legal profession and business. Aston Law graduates possess not only the legal knowledge to succeed but also the business acumen to excel in a highly competitive market. We encourage and support our law students to invest in their personal development and skills set in order to enhance their career prospects and boost their employability.
Our teaching staff are experienced teachers of law and most are qualified lawyers. Our research, consultancy and publications enable our students to learn about the latest national and international developments from staff passionate about the subjects they teach.
Located in Birmingham, one of the most important legal centres outside of London, we have strong links with the legal profession. The University is home to the Birmingham Law Society Library and there are many opportunities for our students to observe the law in practice as our campus is close to the Birmingham law courts and regular visits are embedded into the programmes. Aston Law also has its own courtroom for practical activities.
This four-year qualifying law degree equips students with highly sought after commercial awareness and business skills. Designed to be relevant to the needs of modern legal practice, the course is one of the few Law degrees with an integrated work placement year.
The programme is delivered using seminars, lectures and tutorials. Students learn through using a blend of individual and group work, and Aston Law staff use interactive and media-based teaching methods to assist students with their understanding of complex legal issues. Students benefit from the contributions of guest speakers and our strong links with legal practitioners. A thriving Student Law Society, Mooting Society and regular networking opportunities complement formal classes.
A three-year qualifying LLB Law with Management, without the placement year, will run from 2010 (subject to validation by the professional bodies).
