National law firm Freeths LLP has announced the opening of a new office in Glasgow, marking its first venture into Scotland and its first base outside England, with plans to establish a full-service offering in the country.

This news follows another year of outstanding growth for the firm with revenues increasing by 15% taking turnover to £129 million, up 220% from £40.2 million in 2014. The firm has stated that this is “all through organic growth”.

The move sees the appointment of new partners Paul Ockrim and Nick Taylor, both joining from Addleshaw Goddard.

Freeths’ new Glasgow office is based at Atlantic Quay, Robertson Street in the city centre. The new base will be Freeths’ 13th office in the UK, with the firm having a track record of establishing successful operations in its office locations.

Karl Jansen, Freeths’ national managing partner, commented: “As a firm, we have ambitious plans for further growth in the coming years. Scotland is an important part of the UK’s economy and therefore integral to our core strategy.”

Its London base has grown drastically from a team of two in 2013, to a 100-strong multi-disciplinary team in 2023. The London office is led by senior partner Philippa Dempster, who won The Lawyer’s Hot 100 award 2023 for her development of the office.

The Glasgow base will focus on several areas, including, but not limited to:

These areas will be led by the expertise of managing partners, Ockrim and Taylor.

Taylor commented: “Freeths has a fantastic track record of expanding into new markets, and the strength and depth of the national resource will provide a great platform for us and our clients as we look to recruit a full-service team of like-minded lawyers and build a compelling proposition.”
