Paralegal (development team, social housing)

The practice

Capsticks' market leading health and social care practice will be acquiring Coffin Mews' highly rated social housing practice in June 2013, creating a firm with over 230 fee earners in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Southampton.

The role

The main roles and responsibilities will be to support other fee earners in all aspects of their caseload, including but not limited to:

  • Undertaking fee-earning work under supervision. 
  • Assisting senior fee earners with large and more complex transactions.
  • The conduct of simpler and low value acquisitions and disposals.
  • Dealing with post completion matters including infrastructure agreements, boundary adjustments, easements etc.
  • Dealing wherever appropriate with client enquiries and communications.
  • Providing administrative assistance for the plot sales team and the non-contentious team where necessary.
  • Administering the filing which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained in the practice manual.
  • Preparing mail and closures for dispatch.
  • Attending clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
  • Undertaking any specific training when required todo so and overall to have a responsibility towards self-development.
  • Undertaking any other suitable work for the firm as and when requested by the supervising partner.
  • Using the case management and document management system.

Candidate specification

Paralegals are expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative and have a responsive and proactive approach to the work. Candidates should have:

  • an LPC or BVC qualification (LPC as a minimum);
  • proven experience of similar work over a period of time;
  • full knowledge of the firm’s procedures in respect of money laundering, risk management and client confidentiality;
  • proven experience of handling his/her own caseload;
  • good drafting skills;
  • good communication skills;
  • good administration skills; and
  • good IT skills.

Experience of social housing would be advantageous although not essential. Candidates will however be expected to demonstrate at interview that they:

  • are well organised;
  • have good attention to detail;
  • are proactive; and
  • are self-motivated.

Candidates should be aware that as part of the interview process there will be a written test, details of which will be provided to those candidates the firm calls for interview.

£18,000 plus bonus
