Waiting for (the LETR) to fall: release of education review delayed

The final report of the Legal Education and Training Review (LETR) has been further delayed. Originally, the report's release was planned for December 2012.
The LETR is a wide-ranging investigation into legal educational and training practices in England and Wales that has spanned the last 18 months, and its findings are expected to recommend changes to the current system. The report was jointly commissioned by the Bar Standards Board, ILEX Professional Standards and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Legal Futures reports that members of the LETR research team feel that more time is required to complete the report due to the large and complex base of evidence used; the delay is not due to any disagreement on the report's final recommendations.
An SRA statement said: "Given the weight of evidence and in consideration of the importance and complexity of the review, the commissioning regulators have agreed to allow the LETR research team more time to finalise the report. A date for publication will be issued shortly."
