The Bar Council’s placement week scheme was recognised at the Halsbury Legal Awards in London, winning the award for diversity and inclusion.

The Bar Placement Week brings together high-achieving year 12 students from low-income backgrounds and practising barristers. The initiative includes visits to chambers and courts, as well as advocacy training. Initially launched in London, the scheme has been extended to Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester with partner organisations.

Chair of the Bar Council’s social mobility committee, Taryn Lee QC, commented: “The Halsbury Legal Awards are vital in acknowledging everything that is good about the legal sector, no more so than this particular award category. It allows the whole legal sector to identify what is working well and look to build on it.”
