Savage to retire from ULaw

The president of The University of Law, Nigel Savage, is due to step down from his full-time position at the helm of the legal course provider as of 1 April 2014, after 18 years managing the institution.

Savage presided over a period of considerable growth and change, including its shift to university status and its £200 million sale. In recognition of his contribution to these transformations, he has been awarded the title 'emeritus president'.

Savage said: "It has been a great privilege to lead the university with the support of the staff and colleagues in senior management over the years. It’s also been a lot of fun, despite the inevitable ups and downs of running the organisation through several recessions, reviews and challenges in the market place. […] The core of our success has been remaining true to our original values and commitment to legal practice and excellence in teaching and learning, and these remain the pillars of our future success. Our new owners have reinforced this strategy through tangible investment and expansion plans and I am confident the university will continue to go from strength to strength."

He will be replaced by John Latham, who joined ULaw as chief executive officer in 2013 and will take on the additional role of president from April.
