Retention rate round-up: firms announce how many qualifiers they will keep

A number of firms have confirmed how many newly-qualified (NQ) solicitors they will retain in Autumn 2014. 

While some retention rates are published for an additional spring round, the majority of law firms offer NQ roles for autumn. Those announced so far include:

  • Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer confirmed an 82% retention rate, taking on 37 of 45 trainees;
  • King & Wood Mallesons will retain 73% of its qualifying trainees;
  • Dentons takes on 22 of 26 trainees, giving a retention rate of 85%. As Lawyer2B reports, all those offered NQ roles accepted;
  • Burges Salmon posted a retention rate of 91%, with 20 trainees staying with the firm. The firm will also be increasing its trainee intake up to 27 this year;
  • Nabarro has published an 81% retention rate, with 10 NQs qualifying into the London office and three based in Sheffield;
  • Trowers & Hamlins confirmed that it will retain seven of 11 trainees, with one of the trainee cohort choosing not to apply to the firm.

Several firms have recorded a 100% autumn retention rate, including Weil, Gotshal & Manges, White & Case, RPC and Fieldfisher.
