Law and business news round-up: Leicester City, RBS, BT, driverless cars

Expect most news agencies to be preoccupied by the mayoral election today, but there is still lots of commercial news doing the rounds. Here is just a small selection from the past week:
- RBS has reported a nearly £1 billion loss in the first quarter of 2016, due it says to a £1.2 billion dividend payment to the government.
- While driverless cars are expected to be a boon to road users, reducing crashes by up to 80% (according to US government research), insurers will lose out as premiums drop by $20 billion by 2020.
- Leicester City’s extraordinary premiership win on Monday will likely have a positive impact on the economy of the town itself…
- … while bookies were facing massive pay-outs as a result of the 5,000-1 odds of the team winning.
- Hotel Chocolat’s two founders are now each £20 million richer following the company’s float on the London Stock Exchange.
- BT has committed to a huge £6 billion investment in its broadband and mobile services over the next three years, likely to benefit at least 10 million households.
