Commercial awareness; you can’t have too much of it and the more you work at it, the deeper and more nuanced yours will become. No time like the present – read this collection of business stories from the past week as a jumping-off point:
- In the ongoing battle between HP and Autonomy, the latest development has seen UK tech firm Autonomy countersuing HP for £100 million.
- Around £2 billion-worth of shares in Lloyds Bank are going to be released to the public in 2016, in a move that will “complete the sale of the taxpayer’s stake in the bailed-out institution”.
- Despite the ongoing VW kerfuffle (latest below), sales of new cars in the United Kingdom hit an all-time high in September, up 8.6% on 2014.
- But VW won’t be celebrating thosee figures, as the company’s US boss admits he knew of the emissions ‘defeat device’ early in 2014.
- Who ate all the pies? Loads of people it seems, as Greggs does better than expected with a significant rise in sales, due in part to revamped stores and expanded menus.
