LC.N survey respondent wins £1,000 in prize draw

updated on 27 February 2014

LawCareers.Net's annual reader survey has left one aspiring solicitor £1,000 richer. Sue Huey Ng, currently a second-year law student at the University of Sheffield, was the worthy recipient of the cash prize - and all she had to do was complete our 10-minute online survey.

Sue was attracted to the study of law as someone who is excited by new challenges and the chance to help people: "I am keen to pursue a career that involves rigorous learning of technical material within a commercial context. I think that as a commercial lawyer, I would thrive on completing each transaction and helping clients to achieve their goals."

With commercial law in her sights, Sue hopes to go on to study the LPC after her undergraduate law degree, although is keeping an open mind about the possibility of doing a master’s. As an international student, she appreciates that "the difficulty in acquiring a working visa lies ahead".

Sue notes that as a second-year student, her advice to other would-be lawyers may be limited, but goes on to make various excellent points about how to approach the training contract search: "Do as much research as possible and be sure what you want. The legal profession is extremely competitive and a good CV is definitely a key to success. Use every opportunity you have to gain experience by participating in workshops and competitions that will make you stand out against other candidates."

Finally, Sue offers a few glowing words of recommendation for LawCareers.Net - " a very useful platform to research your desired profession" - and one of its sister publications, Best in Law, which she says is “particularly helpful in providing the picture of excellent employers”.

Congratulations Sue - spend your winnings wisely!
