Junior Lawyers in Schools scheme launched to encourage students about the study of law

updated on 21 November 2014

Organised around the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta in 2015, a new scheme has been launched by Lord Dyson to send young solicitors and barristers into schools and encourage students to pursue a career in law.

The project is coordinated by the Magna Carta 800th committee as part of various activities and events planned to commemorate the charter’s legacy. It is also hoped that the schools visits will encourage a sense of civic duty among young people and a greater awareness of the rule of law. Lord Dyson, a senior judge, announced the scheme: "I think educating and targeting the young is perhaps the most important thing that we should be doing. It is terribly important to learn about the Magna Carta and the rule of law".

Sophie Dirir, chair of the Junior Lawyers Division, said: "As junior lawyers, we assume some responsibility to protect the diverse future generation of legal experts. We try to reach those from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds."

You can learn more about the project, including how you can participate in the programme (on behalf of a school or as a junior lawyer) on the committee’s website.
