Co-op to halve its personal injury staff with 60 redundancies

Co-operative Legal Services (CLS) plans to halve the workforce of its 120-strong personal injury department by making up to 60 redundancies.

CLS is one of the major alternative business structure presences in the legal profession, but has told staff that it will have to cut their numbers due to losing a big source of personal injury work last year, with insufficient numbers of new claims being received. The Law Society Gazette reports that a consultation on the redundancy process will commence in January and that there will be no options for voluntary redundancy, while talks will now be held with NACO, the Co-operative Group's trade union.

A spokesperson for CLS said: "We have announced a restructuring of our personal injury division and formal consultation with staff will begin in the new year. We are keen to consult with colleagues in the first instance and are unable to provide further details at this stage."
