BBC commercial department launches in-house CILEx training

updated on 16 February 2015

Some 36 BBC employees are working toward CILEx qualifications through an in-house scheme at the corporation.

The 36 new starters are all members of the BBC's commercial, rights and business affairs department and are receiving face-to-face, webinar, distance learning and qualifying employment training from CILEx Law School. While 19 of the group will begin studying for the CILEx Level 3 certificate in law and practice in civil litigation, five others already have law degrees or Graduate Diplomas in Law, and will therefore study Level 6 courses leading to a CILEx Graduate Fast-track Diploma. In addition, two employees are studying for the non-graduate CILEx Level 6 qualification, while the remaining 10 are all LPC graduates who are taking the work-based learning route to becoming chartered legal executives.

Jenny Pelling, business director at CILEx Law School, said: "We already have a good working relationship with the BBC through its legal apprenticeship scheme. This further initiative illustrates the flexibility of CILEx qualifications to meet specific business needs. As CILEx Law School specialises in supported distance learning, we are ideally placed to deliver knowledge to BBC staff in various locations."
