Apprenticeship round-up

updated on 08 March 2013

With National Apprenticeship Week set to launch next Monday (11 March), here is a round-up of the latest news from the legal apprenticeship realm:

  • Winckworth Sherwood has appointed its first three apprentices. They will be joining the firm’s education, IT and planning teams. New apprentice Steve Andrade said: "I am really enjoying the work and being part of the team. Everyone is supportive and I am picking up lots of useful skills that will help me progress my career."
  • DAC Beachcroft has launched an apprenticeship programme, developed by CILEx and part of a wider government initiative to encourage young people into professional positions through funded training schemes. Students who meet the minimum academic standards are invited to attend two open evenings - one on 13 March at the firm's Bristol office, the other on 20 March at the firm's Newport office. All details here.
  • BPP has launched 10 new work-based training programmes in a variety of subjects, including law. The programmes will enable students to follow career paths typically only accessible via university. Professor Carl Lygo, CEO of BPP, said: "Apprenticeships are now a real route into the professions and a positive step forward for Britain in educating a workforce who can hit the ground running. They also enable employers to access otherwise untapped, under-represented pools of talented recruits with the talent to thrive in professional services."
