CityLawLIVE update

updated on 27 January 2012

If you received an offer of a delegate place at the CityLawLIVE conference and you have yet to accept it, then don’t let the chance slip away. Our deadline for accepting an offer is approaching fast - it is next Tuesday, 31 January. There’s a good reason you were offered your place: you are likely to benefit greatly from spending a full day learning about how law firms operate and how they are coping with the dramatic changes in the domestic and global economies.

I met with some of our speakers last week and was blown away by their enthusiasm for the event. In particular I had some frank and rather enlightening conversations with two of the members of our City Law Life panel. What they have to say on the lifestyle of City lawyers and the challenges new entrants face may surprise you, hopefully in a good way.

Many of the students who applied to attend the conference told us that they wanted the day to boost their confidence for training contract and vac scheme applications/selections. They wanted the event to deliver useful advice on how to maximise their performance. I anticipate that this event will do just that and turn potentially good applicants into excellent applicants.

Knowing what is expected from a good applicant is half the battle. I’ve been chatting with Freshfields’ recruiters this past week and not only are they providing a one-on-one CV surgery for students (backed up by careers advisers from London law schools), they are also going to deliver an extra session on how to approach applications and assessments. This should be really valuable.

Anyway, it’s great that so many students have already accepted their places - we’re really looking forward to meeting you! - but if you are one of the few who has not yet responded to the offer or reminder (check your junk box for emails from us on Jan 17 and Jan 23), then don’t throw away a good opportunity.

Some reserve list offers are also starting to go out now. If you have received no email from CityLawLIVE at all, then you are on the reserve list.
