Essex County Council - Administrator/paralegal

Duties and Responsibilities:

The role of the paralegal is to help ensure the firm runs smoothly, offering help in all aspects of day-to-day work. 

The responsibilities of the paralegal would include: 

  • Researching cases and offering any pertinent legal information needed

  • Filing case files and handing client caseloads with supervision

  • Entering client information into applications for court

  • Writing first draft documents and letters

  • Proofreading important documents

  • Attend meetings with clients with the principal solicitor 

  • Administrative duties such as taking phone calls and answering correspondence

  • Organising diaries and scheduling meetings 

Desired Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • The ability to use computer programs such as Word and Excel

  • Professionalism when working with clients 

  • Legal database understanding such as LEAP 

  • Office administrative skills such as letter writing, typing and filing

  • Legal research skills and the desire to develop your understanding of the law 

  • Good attention to detail and to be able to carefully analyse files and data

Whilst we require someone with legal knowledge, the candidate also needs to be friendly, hardworking, committed and trustworthy.  The candidate must be able to talk confidently with clients and use their initiate where necessary.

Qualifications Required:

  • Law Knowledge Preferable

  • Work Experience Preferable

  • Driving Licence Preferable

Working Week: 

The candidate will work Monday-Friday from 9am-5:30pm each day.

There will be 30 minutes break for lunch. This amounts to 40 hours per week. 

Future prospects description:

If the candidate demonstrates skills and ability over a 12 month period, there is potential for a training contract.  

Training contracts at law firms are incredibly difficult to come by, but we would love for the candidate to be able to thrive and pursue a career in law at Kayson Solicitors.

Important Other Information:

  • Due to the location of Warlies Park House, and the need to often drive to the station or post office, we would require all applicants to be able to drive. 

  • It will also be necessary for you to travel to London for court cases where appropriate. 

  • The role of a paralegal involves long periods of working on a computer. It will also be necessary for you to often work by yourself and take initiative.
