BBC legal trainee scheme

About the BBC legal trainee scheme

We are offering three LPC graduates the opportunity to work as part of the BBC’s extended legal team for two years of excellent training and unique work experience. Successful applicants need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of and passion for the BBC and an understanding of the many various areas of law that we deal with on an everyday basis.

This competitive scheme attracts bright commercially-aware aspiring lawyers from all backgrounds who want to develop their legal career in-house and work in a fast paced and exciting environment which will give them an opportunity to be involved in a wide range of quality legal work from day one. They will get the chance to work with extremely talented lawyers and business colleagues across the BBC and to build their legal career as part of a very large and supportive in-house team.

What’s on offer?

A 24 month fixed-term contract paying circa £25,000 in the first year and rising to circa £27,000 in the second year (including London weighting) and leading to qualification with the SRA as a solicitor.

Three six-month rotations in IP, BBC Worldwide, rights and business affairs plus one seat in private practice, all based in London.

Professional Skills course provided externally but sponsored by the BBC.

What you need to apply

Applicants must have completed their LPC or be current LPC students who will have passed and be ready to start in September 2015.

Application will be via an application form on the website. We encourage applications from everyone regardless of their academic grades but will be inviting those who are initially longlisted to sit the online Watson Glaser critical thinking test. Those who perform best on the test will then proceed to further tests and to assessment and interviews in London in May. Successful applicants will be invited to a mandatory welcome event and then begin their training contract in mid-late September 2015.

The BBC is committed to diversity and if you have a disability the BBC Access Unit will help you with any adjustments necessary for your assessment and for when you start on the scheme.

Work placements will all be based in London.
