Advisers (NUT Adviceline)

We are currently recruiting for two full time Advisers to join our AdviceLine in Doncaster, on fixed term contracts until 31 December 2018.

This is an office based role, duties will include responding to enquiries from members; offering initial advice; and identifying and referring appropriately for casework support, on a wide range of issues relating to teachers’ employment particularly salaries, maternity/paternity rights, pensions and working conditions.

Successful applicants will possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral and will have the experience and ability to advise by telephone and email, an understanding of the needs of a democratic membership organisation, the ability to be flexible and to work as part of a team as well as independently exercising their own initiative, to deal confidently with Union members and to respect confidentiality, will all be key.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate multi-tasking skills and be highly organised in order to handle the daily work-load that comprises of, but is not limited to, call-handling, email responses, settlement agreement preparation, self-development work and research. Attention to detail, a high level of accuracy, excellent listening skills and the ability to quickly understand our members issue and provide accurate and relevant advice are also essential skills as is the ability to clearly input and update information on our various databases/IT systems.

The Adviceline Office hours are 9am to 7pm operating on a rota basis to cover full opening hours. All staff including full and part-time, temporary and permanent are required to participate in the rota. 

Commencing salary is £30,648 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of Luncheon Allowance of £978 per annum, together with good conditions of service including 25 days leave, pro rata for part-time (rising with service), generous concessionary leave at Christmas/New Year and after some bank holidays and a contributory final salary pension scheme.

Prospective applicants need to be aware that – following shortlisting – applicants will be first invited to an Assessment Centre to be held on Saturday 10 February, and those successful at the Assessment Centre will be invited to final interviews, currently planned for Thursday 15 February.
