Branch property trusts case officer

Do you want to use your skills and experience in analysis and advice to make a vital difference to the armed forces community, ex-service men and women and their families?

The Royal British Legion is the corporate trustee of c.775 branch property-related trusts, known as “BPTs”.  The BPT properties and funds have been acquired and used to support our beneficiaries from the 1920s onwards; however we now need to review how these assets are used and managed to ensure that the 21st century needs of beneficiaries are met effectively today.

Reporting to the BPT Development Manager you will primarily work on a high profile capital funds project within the BPT Programme. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating individual trusts and making recommendations for their future use, including preparing and submitting reports to a trustee committee, the charity commission, or legal advisers.
  • Providing advice and guidance to colleagues, volunteers, members and others about the legitimate use of BPT assets and the work of the BPT Programme.
  • Supporting the BPT Programme to deliver compliance with charity and trust law and the efficient deployment of resources.
  • Supporting the Legion’s communications with key stakeholders on the issues surrounding BPTs.

You will have proven experience in analysing and reporting on complex information and be comfortable dealing with legal and other official documentation. You will have experience of working within a customer-focused environment and providing advice and guidance to a range of audiences.  Excellent IT skills and sound communication skills to engage effectively are essential.  Knowledge and experience of charity governance or the law affecting charitable trusts would be an advantage.
