updated on 28 March 2014

The University of Law (ULaw) in Bristol is hosting a ‘Choose Law’ event on 1 April, where students have the chance to win work experience at Burges Salmon, TLT LLP, Bond Dickinson and Irwin Mitchell.

The open evening at the Temple Circus centre runs from 5:30 - 9:00pm and students can book a place online. Undergraduates and graduates wanting to find out more about a career in law are encouraged to attend; the evening will include advice on routes into the profession, as well as information on the courses offered by ULaw. Representatives from the four sponsor law firms will also be speaking at the event, providing details on how to make a successful application, commercial awareness and issues surrounding the rights of vulnerable and disabled people.

Attendees can enter a prize draw, with the chance to win one of four half-day sessions shadowing a trainee solicitor. Kerry James, head of ULaw in Bristol, emphasised the importance of securing work experience: "Legal work experience is vital for anyone wishing to embark [on] a career in law and there is often a great deal of competition to secure the best placements. This event not only gives aspiring lawyers a chance to win one of four shadowing sessions with a top law firm, but also will provide invaluable advice, tips and information from senior law firm representatives."
