New podcast by First 100 Years charts journey of women in law

A new podcast by the First 100 Years project has launched its first episode in a series of 10 which will explore the history and achievements of women in law, decade by decade.
The series features pioneering lawyers including Baroness Butler-Sloss, Helena Kennedy QC and Dame Janet Gaymer alongside leading historians and academics. The first episode, which is out now, discusses the decade from 1919-1929, including the fight that led up to the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act of 1919 that allowed women to become lawyers for the first time.
Future episodes will look at the first women to practise the law, the impact of World War Two on the perception of women’s work and the struggle for progression up the ranks of the judiciary in the ’60s and ’70s.

Another podcast was launched this month by Women in the Law UK that will feature interviews with senior leaders and influencers in the legal profession on subjects including law, business, wellbeing, career development and career progression.
