What with the sadness of last night’s World Cup defeat, the arrival today of the Donald, and the chaos surrounding this week’s government resignations and non-existent Brexit strategy, you could be forgiven for thinking that there’s really no reason to carry on. - Mothercare has announced that it is to close 60 of its stores by June 2019, as part of its rescue plan following its CVA.
- Without wanting to reopen old wounds, the football and hot weather has had a “mixed impact” on the Young’s pub group. The company has reported increased figures when compared to this period last year, with later games precipitating record sales. It also noted that some customers may have been put off by football screening.
- The battle to control Sky has reached new heights, with Comcast increasing its offer to a mind-boggling £26 billion. This just pips Murdoch’s bid of £24.5 billion to the post.
- The number of Tesco workers in an equal pay claim has swelled to 1,000 – leaving the supermarket giant facing a bill of £4 billion. Around 75% of the claimants are women, who say that they earn up to £3 less than their male counterparts.
- The latest in a string of car manufacturers to do so, Nissan has admitted to misconduct related to emissions testing.
