Clifford Chance to cut 20 training contracts from 2018 intake

updated on 21 September 2016

Magic circle firm Clifford Chance is cutting its training contract numbers by 20.

Following several years of gradual reduction in the number of training contracts it offers, the firm has decided to cut the number of vacancies commencing in 2018 from “up to 100” to “up to 80”, although Legal Cheek reports that this is not related to any concern Clifford Chance may have about Brexit and that the decision was taken before the referendum.

A spokesperson at the firm told Legal Cheek: “In spring this year, the decision was made to reduce our trainee intake. Our trainee intake, like many other elements of our business, is constantly under review to ensure it is the right fit for the future needs of the organisation. We remain one of the largest employers of trainees in the UK market and will continue to offer excellent opportunities to the highest-calibre individuals, supporting them to become great lawyers.”
