CityLawLIVE: could it be your first step on the road to a rewarding City career?

updated on 06 October 2015

International secondment? High-profile deals? Excellent salary? Interesting and varied clients? If all of these things are on your list of what constitutes a perfect legal career, then life as a City lawyer could be your nirvana.

But what does it really mean to be a legal professional in the heart of the City? You may wonder whether your language skills will be of use or whether you have sufficient commercial awareness to impress recruiters. You may simply want to learn more about the range of legal areas in which City firms work. And while it's an exciting and rewarding career choice, there are inevitable downsides - among which are long hours, stress-inducing deadlines and the need to sacrifice social and family commitments. How do City lawyers cope with these elements of the job?

To discover the answer to all these questions, CityLawLIVE is again running its one-day student conference. The conference - on Friday 11 December 2015 - aims to address these issues and many more. For just £29 per delegate, there is the chance to listen to in-depth panel discussions, attend firm-led interactive workshops and network with recruiters and firm representatives. You will also get to share experiences with your peers, all in the grand surroundings of one of central London's most beautiful venues - One Great George Street.

We have run the conference in 2012, 2013 and 2014, refining the process as we go! To get a flavour of these earlier events, why not read one delegate's view of the day and a recap of one of the panel discussions on application technique, and watch videos featuring the lawyers, recruiters and attendees who were there.

And finally, in an exciting development this year, if you're more interested in working at one of the big national firms, we are also running a sister event - NationalLawLIVE - in Manchester on 4 December. Find out more about that option at www.nationallawlive.com.

Applications are flooding in, so if you are interested (and particularly if you are a second-year law or final-year non-law student) please visit www.CityLawLIVE.com to learn more and to apply (closing date is 31 October - read this for tips on what we're looking for in the perfect application). You can also apply direct via AllHires. If the City beckons, CityLawLIVE is the perfect place to start the journey.
