CMS First Steps
Take your first steps to a career in law
If you have just started university and are already thinking about pursuing a career in commercial law, then this programme is a great place to start. We have designed CMS First Steps exclusively for you. It includes:
- An introduction to CMS and an office tour
- Skills sessions on effective networking and how to demonstrate commercial awareness
- The opportunity to shadow a trainee and gain an insight into life as a lawyer. This will involve observing and partaking in the day to day activities that trainees complete
- Speed networking to meet our Associates and Trainees from each of our practice areas and to find out about the work they do
- Negotiation skills session to learn about strategies for effective negotiation, including the opportunity to put the skills into action in our negotiation workshop
- Case study seminars will help develop your legal knowledge and commercial awareness. They will cover how the firm makes money and examples of exciting deals
- Team building day to forge social links between you and your peers
- On-going coaching opportunities from an assigned ‘buddy’, as well as access to our graduate recruitment team for advice and guidance
To be eligible to take part in CMS First Steps, you should be a first year law student or second year non-law student in England or Wales; a second year law student in Scotland. First Steps dates: 9 April 2018 (Sheffield, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen) 16 April (London)
